Stone Mountain Health Services and Senator Mark Warner’s office held a Black Lung Summit at Mountain Empire Community College on September 6. Miners, researchers, physicians, regulators and lawyers attended the summit focused on the black lung epidemic. Across the nation, 1 in 10 miners have the disease, according to the CDC. In Central Appalachia, it’s 1 in 5.
