VCHA Response to Closure of Capital Area Health Network Wellness Program

HENRICO, VA (April 2, 2025) – Virginia Community Healthcare Association (VCHA) greatly values its partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), a collaboration that has been pivotal in advancing health initiatives and improving access to essential care. However, we are profoundly disappointed by VDH’s recent decision to forgo a new contract with the Capital Area Health Network (CAHN), one of our member health centers, under the Ryan White HIV/STI Program.

This unfortunate decision means that vital funding, which sustains CAHN’s comprehensive HIV/AIDS services, will come to an abrupt end. These services play a critical role in the lives of numerous individuals in the Richmond area and surrounding communities, offering life-saving treatments, compassionate support, and important educational resources. The withdrawal of this funding threatens to close a lifeline for those affected by HIV/AIDS, making it more challenging for vulnerable community members to access the care they desperately need.

In light of this decision, we urge VDH to reconsider and recognize the significant impact of funding cuts on the lives of those served by Virginia’s community health centers. Together, we can ensure that everyone has access to essential healthcare services and the support they need. Let’s unite in our commitment to public health and advocate for a future where individuals affected by HIV/AIDS can thrive without barriers. The well-being of our communities depends on it.
