Microlearning Session: What is Health Literacy & How is It Measured?

Watch this quick learning session on Health Literacy and How it is Measured to learn about a method of assessing health literacy. Would you be surprised if we told you that ice cream is involved?

The session quickly explains health literacy and a method for measuring it. Try using this method to measure your own health literacy. You may be surprised. A link is available with information about this method and how it is administered.

This video was created by Dr. Bruce Lambert, a professor in the department of communication studies and the director of the Center for Communication and Health at Northwestern University. His research focuses on health communication, drug name confusion, patient and medication safety, health literacy, health information technology, prescribing behavior, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmaceutical promotion, medical liability reform, and health outcomes associated with provider-patient communication. He is currently the principal investigator on a five-year center grant funded by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study techniques for optimizing medication safety. You can find out more about Dr. Lambert at this Northwestern University website page. Also, check out the blog on his How Communications Works website where you can learn more about  personal communications and public speaking skills.
